Privacy Policy

Quick Expand ("we", "us", or "our") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Chrome extension.

Data Collection and Usage

We do not collect personal information like your name, email address, or phone number used to identify you directly.

The primary function of Quick Expand is to store and expand text snippets. This data is processed as follows:

  • Local Storage: Your text snippets, categories, and settings are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage.local API. This data remains within your browser instance.
  • Data Sync (Optional): If you enable the "Sync" feature, Quick Expand interacts with the Google Drive API. Snippet data is stored in your personal Google Drive Application Data folder (appDataFolder). This folder is hidden from the user and other apps, accessible only by Quick Expand. We do not have access to your Google Drive files outside of this specific application data.

Permissions

Quick Expand requires specific permissions to function correctly. Here is how each permission is used:

  • activeTab and scripting: Used to insert your expanded text snippets into the currently active text field on the web page you are viewing.
  • storage: Used to save your snippets and extension preferences locally on your device.
  • clipboardWrite: Used as a fallback method to insert text into fields that do not support direct insertion.
  • contextMenus: Allows you to create new snippets quickly by right-clicking selected text on a webpage.
  • identity: Used solely for the optional Sync feature to authenticate with your Google account and synchronize your snippets via Google Drive.

Third-Party Services

Google OAuth 2.0: We use Google's authentication service to allow you to sign in and sync your data. When you sign in, an authentication token is generated and stored locally to maintain your session.

Data Security

We are committed to the security of your data. Since your snippets are stored locally on your device or in your private Google Drive (if Sync is enabled), you retain full control over your data. We do not maintain external servers to process or store your text snippets.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
